The first step of arranged marriage is to horoscope matching of the prospective bride and the groom. This is also known as Kundali Milan or Horoscope Matching. Whether you are planning a love marriage or an arranged marriage, it is very important to do Kundali Milan.

How do I match Kundali?
As an experienced astrologer, the first step that I take to give true marriage predictions is to study the birth chart or horoscope of the bride and groom. I begin with the matching of the Gunas or Guna Milan. These Gunas are the eight most significant aspects (Ashta Koota) that astrologers consider for a happy and long-lasting marriage. I am able to provide accurate marriage predictions based on the following eight Gunas:
- Graha Maitri
I assign different points to these Gunas, totaling 36 points.
What does astrology for marriage tell you?
Using Guna Milan or horoscope matching will provide love or arranged marriage prediction using the date of birth as a calculator. I have forecasted the success of married life of hundreds of couples by considering several essential factors like:
- The life span of the bride and the groom
- Quality of married life
- Physical compatibility
- Emotional Harmony
- Difficulty in having children
- Chances of separation
- Loyalty in marriage.
Gun Milan and what it tells you:
Guna Milan or Ashta Koota (Eight aspects) are very important for love or arranged marriage prediction in Indian astrology. Let me explain to you what each one means:
It is also known as Jaati. It indicates the spiritual compatibility of two people. It is classified into four categories: Brahmins, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra. It has a maximum one point in the Guna Milan.
It shows the power compatibility in between married couples. People are classified into 5 types of Vasya:
- Manav (human): Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Aquarius and first half of Sagittarius.
- Vanchar (wild animals): Leo.
- Chatushpad (quadrupeds): Aries, Taurus, the first half of Capricorn and second half of Sagittarius.
- Jalchar (sea animals): Cancer, Pisces and second half of Capricorn.
- Keeta (insects): Scorpio
The Vasya Koota matching can have a maximum of two points. I have seen in the past that if the Vasya Koota match has zero points, then marriage is not compatible.
Tara Koota gives us an indication of relation compatibility, success of partners after their marriage and the effect of marriage on their health. It is based on 27 Nakshatras (birth stars). A good marriage match may earn up to a maximum of three points of Tara Guna. A good Tara Koota is essential for a happy and long married life.
Yoni Koota gives us an idea about healthy sexual life after marriage and affinity as lovers. It is divided into fourteen animals in total. Based on different combinations a Yoni match can earn up to maximum of four points.
It provides us information about a couple’s mental compatibility, mutual friendship and fondness for each other. It is based on the moon-sign compatibility that each of the 12 Zodiac Signs is ruled by a planet. If the couple has maximum of five Grah Maitri points, they will enjoy a married life full of compassion, trust and loyalty.
According to Vedic astrology there are three types of Gana: Deva or Devata (God), Manava (Human), and Rakshasa (Demon). If both the bride and groom both are Dev Gana then the six maximum points are added to the Guna Milan. If one of them has Dev Gana and the other has Rakshasa Gana then zero points are added to the Guna Milan. The Gana Koota helps us to know the temperament and behaviour compatibility of the couple.
Rashi Koota is the matching of compatible moon signs. Marriage is only recommended if the partners belong to compatible zodiac signs. If both the partners belong to the same zodiac sign or to compatible zodiac signs, they earn seven points. This shows a very high emotional compatibility and love between the two partners. In some cases, the couple earn zero points which is also called Bhakoot. I would not recommend a marriage of couples who have Bhakoot Dosh as it may lead to major health and financial problems for the couple after marriage.
The Nadi Koota holds a maximum of eight points which is more than all other Kootas. So, it is often considered the most important test of Kundali Milan. Naadi Koota is an indicator of different physiological factors as well as hereditary and genetic factors. Vedic astrology has classified the 27 Stars (Nakshatra) into 3 parts- Aadi Nadi (wind), Madhya Nadi (Bile), and Antya Nadi (Phlegm). If a couple earns zero Nadi Guna points, it is called Nadi Dosha. I would not recommend that couples who have a strong Nadi Dosha to get married as it may lead to the death of a partner.
As a result of years of experience and after performing thousands of Kundali matching, I have observed that couples who have more than 20 points are a superb match; 24 to 32 points is a very good match; 18-24 points is an ordinary but acceptable match; and less than 18 points is not recommended for marriage.
